In a recent series of interviews, Britney Spears' ex-husband from the mid to late '00s has spoken out about the experience, saying that their two sons have chosen not to see their mother for months and that "it's tough" seeing her like this.

Spears retaliated, saying that she was urged to give her kids over to him and expressing that she's not in the wrong here, which new husband Sam Asghari agrees with.

There's been some recent back and forth between Britney Spears and her ex-husband.

Just yesterday, Kevin Federline spoke out for the first time in over a decade about Spears. They were married for three years, from 2004-2007, and had two kids together, Sean and Jayden, who are now 16 and 15 years old respectively.

This week, interviews with Federline will be airing on ITV.

He did an in-depth series of discussions about his life as Spears' ex, and how it's affected their family.

Some of his talking points have already been revealed, namely one about their children.

Spears now lives near the Federline family, but her sons still refuse to see her.

He claims that both Sean and Jayden have chosen not to see their mom for months now. They also chose not to go to her wedding.

Federline also believes that Spears' 13-year conservatorship "saved" her, and that her extremely public struggles have an impact on her sons.

He insists that the boys love their mom, but it can be hard sometimes.

"This whole thing has been hard to watch, harder to live through, harder to watch my boys go through than anything else," he says. "It's been tough. It's the most challenging thing I've ever had to do in my life."

He's also struggled to explain some of Spears' behaviors, like her nude photos, to their sons. "I try to explain to them, 'Look, maybe that's just another way she tries to express herself.' But that doesn't take away from the fact of what it does to them. It's tough."

Spears replied to all of this mere hours later.

She posted a still photo to her Instagram Story, seen above, wherein she says she gave them everything and that her own mother insisted she relinquish custody to Federline.

She also made a post to her main feed elaborating further.

"As their step mom says 'whatever is happening outside this home has nothing to do with his home.'"

She explains how she's only been free of her conservatorship for less than a year, and it's rather overwhelming, so of course she's in a bit of a tizzy.

"Being able to have cash FROM THE OUTSIDE world for the first time is EXTREMELY ENLIGHTENING [...] are we equal now ???" She writes. "During my conservatorship I was controlled and monitored for nearly 15 years ... I needed permission just to take Tylenol !!! I should embark on doing WAAAY more than going topless on the beach like a baby !!!!"

She then says she's not surprised that people are doing these kinds of interviews.

"I'm not surprised at all with their behavior and their approach to what I've had to deal with !!!"

Her husband, Sam Asghari, also responded. He clarified that Spears had never posted a nude photo outside showing anything besides her butt, the rest were only implied nudity. "There is not validity to his statement regarding the kids distancing themselves and it is irresponsible to make that statement publicly. [...] the 'tough' part was having a father who hasn't worked much in over 15 years as a role model."

There's a lot of back and forth happening.

And it's likely going to continue when the rest of Federline's interviews air and we get to hear what else he said about his experiences.

Fans are applauding Spears for standing up for herself, and Asghari as well for defending his wife.
