What makes a wedding special is the people you choose to share it with. Of course, it wouldn't even be happening without two people who want to get married. But it would also feel strange if you didn't have your loved ones by your side. Not just close relatives, but close friends, too.

A man on Reddit had a very close friend whom he wanted at his wedding. His wife-to-be, on the other hand, had a problem with the way the friend dressed. So, the Redditor told his friend to "man up" or not come to the wedding. Now he's asking the AITA community if his choice of words were out of line.

OP shares that he and his friend, Taylor, have known each other for a very long time. Now in their 30s, OP is about to get married to his fiancée, Anne. Anne, however, worries about Taylor's fashion sense; he tends to dress in punk fashion, while his partner is very flamboyant. OP claims that Anne's ADHD and anxiety make her worry that Taylor and his partner's fashion sense will clash with their low-key, minimalist wedding.

OP sat down with Taylor to ask him to tone his clothing choices down for the wedding. Though the conversation was pretty light at first, things took a turn when OP began to tell Taylor to "man up," and start "acting his age." He also said that people would laugh at the way Taylor dresses.

At the time Taylor was casual about it. But later, he declined the wedding invitation. OP has also noticed that his group chat with Taylor and other friends has been silent since everything went down.

The Comment Section Was Pretty Clear On Who They See At Fault.

Users discuss how insensitive OP was.

The comment section was... definitely not on OP's side. At best, they thought he was perpetuating gender stereotypes. At worst, they thought both OP and Anne were acting homophobic.

Many Thought OP Could've Had A Lot More Tact.

Users were confused at how OP sided against Taylor so easily.

Considering how long OP claims to have known his friend, it seems strange that he'd have such harsh words to say. It could be that he just lacked tact at the moment, though.

Users Also Accused The Fiancée Of Using Her ADHD And Anxiety As An Excuse.

People are mad at Anne for using her neurodivergence as an excuse for bigotry.

No one doubts that Anne has those disorders, but users weren't happy with the way they were seemingly used as excuses for being so unkind to Taylor.
