Being a parent comes with a lot of responsibility. It is easier to take care of the children when the parents are still together. However, when the parents are separated, the responsibility could be much. Especially if one is remarried with more children. Here is a story of how a Redditor refused to pay child support as requested by his ex-wife.

The Redditor Revealed That His Ex Suddenly Demanded Child Support After Many Years

The Redditor shares his 17-year-old daughter and 15-year-old son with his ex-wife. They have been divorced for 13 years and share 50/50 custody. Neither pays child support because they spend equal time with their children and split every cost.

The Reddit user opened a bank account for each child when they were born and have been saving. When the Redditor got injured at work 8 years ago, he put the money he received into the accounts. He was also left with some money which he put in the accounts when a relative passed 4 years ago. The money saved should be enough to pay for his kids' college.

Several years ago, the Redditor’s ex-wife remarried. She now has a 16-year-old stepdaughter and a 14-year-old nephew of her husband's who they raise. She also has two children with her husband who are 7 and 5.

The ex-wife wanted to have a conversation about their children's college. She and her now husband had told their children community college was more affordable. However, the Redditor told her he had saved enough money for his children's college. Therefore community college would just be an option. She questioned why he kept it a secret and he said it was not something she needed to know.

A few days after having the conversation, his ex and her husband placed a call through. They wanted the Redditor to pay child support so they could save for their own children's future. The Redditor refused to pay her child support. Then her husband told the Redditor he could split the money between all the children. However, the Redditor told him he was only responsible for his children. He suggested taking his kids more if they wanted to spend more time with him.

The Redditor's ex-wife called him cruel. She said it should not be hard for her to keep 50-50 and for him to pay his kid's siblings' college fees. However, the Redditor said that was only possible if they were together. Since they had broken up, they were both responsible for their children. For this, his ex-wife and her husband called him an ass and the Redditor wondered if he was one.

In addition, the Redditor does not make as much as his ex-wife. He was also below the point used to determine child support in 50-50 cases. So the court did not order child support. The Redditor is the only one who has access to the money although his children are aware of it.
