Though everyday women work hard for their rights worldwide, there is a long road to getting total equality. Women struggle daily with the injustice many work fields present regarding salaries, so when a female has a good position with a deserved income, it is a big deal.

This woman on Reddit is an excellent example of this issue. OP works as a product manager for a tech company, commonly known as a male-dominated world; she has worked in the same company since she got out of college and has been escalating positions to get where she is today.

OP explained she spends a lot of time helping other women rise in their work field to get better salaries, and she is very transparent about how she makes. One day she and her fiancé were talking to his siblings, his eighteen-year-old brother and twenty-nine-year-old sister, about her job.

While his brother is thinking about studying computer science, his sister is a pregnant single mom who works for minimum wage. His brother asked OP about her job, and with that came the question about how much she made; of course, she responded by telling him that she makes around $300,000 after recently getting promoted.

He was surprised about the number but congratulated her. After some time, she noticed that her SIL was sobbing while her mother-in-law was comforting her about something. When they asked her what was wrong, she said it was hard to see how other people have everything while she makes $15 an hour.

Her Mother-In-Law Says She Needs To Apologize

SIL and MIL ended up leaving for the bathroom, but right before they left, her mother-in-law told OP she owed her SIL an apology for being insensitive. OP believes she deserves an apology, too, because of how she reacted.

OP's fiancé is on her side; he attributes her reaction to the pregnancy and believes it will pass. OP doesn't feel she said anything wrong, as she was answering a question. On the other hand, she is upset because she has always helped her SIL with money or babysitting whenever asked.

Users acknowledge that her SIL's situation is rather difficult, but they also point out that OP is not responsible for her life. Comments say she wasn't insensitive and should be proud of her hard work.

Meanwhile, other Redditors believe that her MIL acted wrong; she shouldn't have been involved in the situation, nonetheless accused OP of being insensitive. Because, as someone pointed out, she wasn't bragging about it.

The post opened a discussion about women and salary transparency. Some users thought it was absurd that OP made that amount of money with only five years of experience, while others praised her for being a great example of a hardworking woman in the male industry.
