The start of a relationship is tough; you are getting to know each other, your likes and dislikes, and most importantly, your friends. Of course, your friends always want the best for you, so if they notice something is off, they will tell you; however, not everyone can take bad news.

This Redditor thought she was a good friend, but after her friend's reaction, she wondered if she did the right thing. OP started by explaining she lives in the UK, though she is not originally from there; she speaks English and Spanish very well because she learned them in school.

She said she was at a party with one of her friends, who had invited her new boyfriend, Adrian. This was OP's first time meeting him, but other than an introduction, they didn't talk through the night. She added that Adrian is from Spain and brought a friend with him.

As the night went on, she went outside to get some fresh air, but she noticed two people were talking in Spanish. Then, of course, she recognized Adrian and his friend and realized they were trash-talking her friend thinking nobody would understand them.

OP decided to tell her friend about what she heard, but Adrian denied everything. He also accused her of being a liar for not telling him she speaks Spanish, as she was hiding it. In the end, her friend kicked her out of the party and won't talk to her.

Maybe She Should've Remained Quiet

Now Adrian is going all over his social media calling OP names, and OP is worried about losing her friend. However, people in the comments let her know she acted like a good friend, and it would've been worse if she didn't say anything.

Users comforted OP, telling her it was not her fault and that, sadly, some people react this way whenever they find out something terrible about their partner. They said it could take some time, but eventually, she will realize OP was right and remember how she acted, but she needs to learn by herself.

On the other hand, many Redditors pointed out how ridiculous Adrian's attitude was. OP didn't have to tell him she spoke Spanish, nonetheless, when they didn't even talk to each other rather than fight.
