Children's birthday parties are often fanfare, especially when the parents can afford to splurge. However, too much money can cause problems between two controlling parents as they disagree over the party's theme.

You'd be surprised at the amount of planning that goes into a child's party, especially the guest list. Parents are as brutal as schoolchildren, and they form cliques and make concerted efforts to exclude unwanted children.

This Reddit user shared a story about a fight between him and his wife over their child's birthday party. The wife invited all children, to the displeasure of her husband, who said they took the attention off his six-year-old.

The Couple Disagree Over Core Values

The Redditor explained that his wife considered a special needs child while planning the birthday party, making him feel like this kid had all the attention.

The party was fairytale royalty-themed; hence all the attendants came wearing prince and princess outfits, but the special needs child wore a unicorn dress.

His wife also accommodated this child's play interests by getting her special toys and preparing a room for the child and her mother in case they got overwhelmed with the day's festivities.

While these were noble acts, the poster found them too much and complained about his wife's sensitivity. Then, they argued over their different values before retiring to different parts of their house to sleep.

He doesn't see anything wrong in his actions, so he asked the AITA sub Redditors to validate his actions.

This Could Topple Their Marriage

The Redditors called the poster out for being insensitive and reminded him to be grateful his wife had good morals and empathy. His account of the event didn't mention his daughter's feelings meaning he didn't care about that but used it as an excuse to act like a jerk.

There wasn't anything different about the special-needs child during the party because if there were any, he'd have mentioned it at the beginning. However, he didn't, and instead of thanking her for covering his poor morals, he picked a fight.

This situation seems like a small issue, but it can potentially ruin their marriage as it's exposed a critical flaw in the poster's character. Surprisingly, they married each other with such differences in morals, and there's no doubt the woman would reevaluate her marriage.

Good luck to that man working his way out of this situation.
